Application and control

The terms "User Account" and "Test Project" are closely linked to each other as you can see at Compute time for a Test Project.

• To apply for a user account (test project) please follow the link User Application on Portal NHR@ZIB.
• With a user account you can submit a project proposal, see Compute Project.
• User accounts (test projects) can be managed at Portal NHR@ZIB.
• The user administration (Benutzerverwaltung) can be reached via benutzerverwaltung@nhr.zib.de.

Policies for a User Account

Please note the following limitations for using NHR resources:

1. The NHR regulations limit the access to NHR resources to scientists at German universities under public law (see NHR Alliance, Computing Time / NHR-Verein, Rechnernutzung).
2. Due to export control, the NHR systems are not accessible for people originating from certain countries. For details, please read the document Supercomputer und Exportkontrolle of the BMBF and the information on the Portral NHR@ZIB.

Compute time for a Test Project

• One important property of a User Account is its automatic link to a Test Project. You are able to expend compute time.
• At the beginning of each quarter, the Test Project is granted by 75 k core hour during the lifetime of the User Account. In reasonable cases, the grant of the Test Project can be extended to 300 k core hour per quarter. For that, please contact your consultant. At the end of each quarter all remaining core hour in the Test Project are dropped.
• With the User Account you have access to all Compute Project in which the User Account is a member in.

Account for the operation system

Holding a User Account you hold an account for the Linux operation systems of Lise. It is used for authorization and access control incl. permissions to data files.

Lifetime of a User Account

If your User Account is

• newly established or if the membership in the last compute project has finished, then the lifetime of the account is three quarters. Following this period access to the data of the account is possible during one additional quarter. After the end of this quarter number four, the user account is disabled. In reasonable cases, the lifetime of a user account can be extended. For that please contact your consultant.
• a member of a compute project the lifetime of this account does not finish.

Email address changes

When your main email address has changed for some reason, but you are still a user of the systems, you should contact your consultant or NHR user administration to get your entry in our database modified. If email to a registered address is undeliverable, NHR administration will disable the respective user accounts.
